The house hunting checklist by Yin Homes: Must-ask questions of every prospective home buyer
Looking to buy a house in TTDI but not sure what questions to ask? We’ve compiled a checklist of questions we think would matter most to you when looking for a landed house in matured neighbourhoods like TTDI.
Getting the technical specs of the house
What is the land size?
Can the house be extended? (Can council approval be obtained for extension - to the back, front? For building another storey?)
Is there a side yard?
Getting to know your neighbours
Are they families, retired, etc.?
Are they owners of the house or is it tenanted?
Understanding the condition of the house*
When was the last renovation done?
What’s the age and condition of the electrical wiring? Has it ever been redone?
What’s the age and condition of the plumbing? Has it ever been redone?
Roof - Are there any leaks, watermarks?
Are there any furnishings left behind, such as air-conditioning units? If yes, what is the condition of the items, are they old or new?
*If in doubt, don’t be afraid to bring a trusted contractor to evaluate all of the above with you.
Scouting the neighbourhood
Is there ample parking space? Are the roads narrow or wide? (e.g. are people parking by the roadside, double parking?)
How often does the garbage truck come by? Where do you bring your trash bags to? (e.g. in TTDI it is to the back)
Visit the house in different times of the day to get a feel of the indoor temperature and level of activity - morning, afternoon, and evening
Is your street well-lit?
Paying attention to the house and the area as we mentioned above helps make your decision making way easier! If you are still unsure, feel free to give us a call or drop us a text for a chat!
